Mr. Snowman

Today the left over snow was the best for snowman making. Usually the snow we get here is very light and fluffy. Not good snow for making snowballs or a snowman. As soon as school was out the girls went out in the backyard and made Mr. Snowman. Isn't he cute?! Kaitlyn said she couldn't find enough rocks to make the mouth so she used a cedar branch for the mouth. I told her it looks like he has a mustache.

After dinner we took a walk through the park out to the bridge and onto the beach. It was dusk so not good for picture ops. Hopefully tomorrow will be a nice day and Starbuck and I can walk out there and get some updated pictures of the lake.

Not much else new going on around here. Tomorrow is Hawaiian day at school. I will get some pictures of the girls all dressed up. I was worried I wouldn't be able to find Hawaiian stuff for them but luckily the dollar store had a huge section to choose from. Thank goodness for those dollar stores!!

Iron Chef Battle Pineapple

We had our first Iron Chef Canada! It was battle pineapple. We all met at the Berkman's house for the tasting part of the battle. Brooke and Jim provided the main dish~coconut chicken with pineapple chutney, Kris and Zach provided the appetizer~ jerk chicken kabob's and pineapple salsa, Sean and Claire Craig provided dessert~ pineapple sundae's and Matt and I provided the side dish~ pineapple and strawberry cole slaw and curry cous cous. The Craig's were unable to attend because Claire was sick. They were truly missed!! We had a lot of fun seeing what everyone made and enjoying all the yummy food. Our next battle will be Coconut! Can't wait!!

Snow Day

Today was a snow day for the girls. We woke up to about 2 inches on the ground and lots more coming down. They issued a snow squall warning and by 7:15 school was closed. After breakfast I decided to head out and shovel the driveway just to get some physical activity. There was about 3-4 inches on the ground by then. The girls and i hung out playing the Wii. Grace and I played a couple games of dominoes. Then we all headed outside for some play time. We started with shoveling the driveway again. There was another 3 inches by then. After we headed over to the sledding hill. The girls took a couple runs but then Grace bit it really good and hurt her knee and she was done. So we decided to do something less dangerous~snow angel making. Then it was time for hot chocolate with marshmallows!! YUM!

As the day has gone on, our main highway has been closed all day and the snow continues to come down and now the wind is picking up. We are due for a pretty nasty storm tonight. Who knows if there will be school tomorrow. Please let there be school or as least let us get out of the house!!

I got a few good pictures from our day. I just LOVE the one of Starbuck. It looks like he is smiling :0) Enjoy the videos also. The girls love to go down the hill and I have to say I do too. We will keep you posted on the weather and take some more pictures of what is happening....

Grace's New Bedding

So Matt took Grace to Wal Mart this past weekend to get some new bedding. Now Grace being the girly girl that she is I would never have thought this is what she would come home with. I tell you she was SO excited about what she picked. Now, to look in her room you see pink girly wall stickers, pictures that are pink and purple and tons of stuffed animals. Then you look at the bed and you see this. I think it's funny. But I do have to say she is very much a hockey fan. She will choose to watch hockey with Papa over watching Hannah Montana with Kaitlyn. She loves her new bedding and says it helps her sleep better. Way too cute!!!

Valentine's Dinner

Matt and I headed out last night to a wonderful dinner with Brooke, Jim, Kris and Zach. We ate at a great restaurant right in Kincardine. It was a night of great foods, lots of laughs and awesome friends!!! Kaitlyn and Grace tag-teamed babysitting the 4 boys. The bummer part of the night was Kaitlyn got very sick. We she was up every hour from 10:30 to 3:30. Poor girl! Right now she is napping on the couch. I am praying she can kick this awful thing quickly and Grace doesn't get it. All in all it was a wonderful night together and a great memory.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone! We started the morning with a scavenger hunt for the girls gifts. They raced all over the house looking for the clues. Then I made a fun breakfast of strawberry muffins, sausage and "love potion" juice. It was a fun family morning.
After the girls went for their haircuts and now Kaitlyn is at her 4H Cooking Club. Grace and Matt went out for a quick hockey practice out in the driveway. The snow is almost gone so we can rollerblade down the road.

Good-bye snow :)

So the snow is going away. Here is a pictures so you can see the difference in the amount of snow we have now. It had been warm and sunny this last 3-4 days. Just loving it but today it's raining-LOTS! I have to say I loved seeing the pretty white snow, now it's ugly brown snow. But it's nice to thaw out a bit and get the cars cleaned. Good to get off all the sand and salt.

As for what is new here. Well, let's see. Last Saturday Kaitlyn joined a 4-H cooking club. They meet for 8 weeks and at the end I think she earns a badge type of thing. She has to put together a "book" for the club also. They are going to tour the local grocery store and possibly the hospital to see what a commercial restaurant looks like.

Grace is playing one of her last hockey games today. They may not have any more games until the tournament in March. They need some good practices before then so I think that will be what will go on for the next few weeks.

I found a great women's bible study that I am really enjoying. I find myself busy most days and wondering where the time has gone. Matt is busy with work and all the changes that are going on with it. Good changes ones that will be great for his job.

An evening stroll

After dinner Matt and I took the girls and Starbuck for a walk. The days are getting longer and the weather has been warming up so we thought it would be fun to go down and check out the lake. I still find it amazing how much it changes from week to week. The weather has be beautiful here the past few days. Highs of around 45 and lows of 30. It's been SO nice. Right now it's36. We are loosing a bunch of snow which we don't mind and we are able to wash the cars. Get all that sand and salt off of them. I took a few pictures while down at the beach so you can see what it looks like now.

Weekend update...a little late...

So it has taken me almost all week to fill you in on how the rest of our weekend went. So here it is...

The Berkman's and Dunham's showed about early evening on Friday. We had a wonderful dinner cooked by the guys then us adults went into the village while Kaitlyn watched the kiddos.

The next morning we all hit the mountain. There was a bit of trouble getting there due to keys locked in one of the cars. And that car was blocking all the rest. But the issue got solved and we all were up on the hill. The weather was a lot colder than the day before but the snow was awesome. It had snowed quite a bit the night before and the runs were great.

The girls had a good time in their class but were exhausted by the end of the day. Kaitlyn ended up having a good head cold that kept her home from school on Monday and Tuesday. Both girls are excited to go again sometime soon. Which excites both Matt and I because we got that "ski bug" back again.

All in all it was a great time, everyone had lots of fun and we made some great memories. Here is another video of Grace skiing. It's a much better one. The bummer thing is each time we went to find the girls Kaitlyn had gone in for the day, she didn't last all day. So the next time we ski I will make sure I get video of her skiing.
